THIS HISTORIC IRON FACTORY IS ON FIRE WITH NEW CREATIVE ENERGY.

The former Queen City Foundry has been reimagined as one of Charlotte’s most unique workplaces.

The two original buildings opened in 1928 as an iron production factory, and remained in operation until 1985. They are located in Third Ward, which in the 1920s became a center of industrial and warehouse buildings that supported the city’s rising importance as a Southeastern distribution hub. The Foundry is especially distinctive among the industrial properties along South Cedar Street because the buildings are constructed of metal rather than masonry.

The Foundry was acquired in 2014 by Charlotte-based developer Beauxwright, and two additional buildings became part of the complex. At a low 68% occupancy rate and in dire need of significant improvements and maintenance, the property was ready for its next act. Beauxwright followed a vision to retain the character of vintage industrial buildings while renovating and upfitting them to attract creative companies.

Today, The Foundry encompasses more than 60,000 SF and is home to a thriving and connected community. The businesses are diverse and cross many industries, yet all are united in the desire to work, create and collaborate in an environment that is as industrious as it is one-of-a-kind.
